We've Got to Give People a Reason to Dance

    Bad things happen.

They happen to good people, they happen to great people, and they happen to bad people. To say they don't happen would be silly. But do we honestly have to talk about it 24/7?

Look, I know what happened in Boston yesterday was tragic, but is it the only thing that happened in the world yesterday? Probably not, just like for the past 4 months Sandy Hook wasn't the only bad thing that happened.

    Why Sensationalism Sucks

Every day bad things happen to people, yet day-after-day no one talks about it. Little things like when someone loses their job because the company has to downsize or when someone cannot afford medicine because they cannot afford insurance? What about those bad things? They affect millions of Americans each and every year and hundreds are dealing with it on a daily basis.

Yet, no one seems to care. In this country we only focus on the absolute worst things around. Tragedies happen, and when they do it sucks, but it's not the only thing that sucks. Corporate greed sucks, health costs suck, fuel prices suck, half of the country being unemployed or underemployed sucks, yet 99% of America would rather rally around one major disaster.

    200 People

3 Deaths, 183 Injured. That's the last count. I can almost promise 200 people were fired, laid off, or injured in an automobile accident yesterday and it wasn't talked about. Why? Because no body cares or at least it seems that way. Now we only cover the stories that put us in the most fear and cause us to constantly live in a state of paranoia. Not feel good stories, or stories about life's real issues.

    No One is Dancing

There's a real problem going on in America. It's called the lack of happiness and hope. We don't have that anymore, and no one is trying to help that problem. When you lose those two things bad things start to pile up. A person who's at wits in with life will likely do something without thinking. If you push a person into the corner over and over, they'll push back. That's what our problem is and if we don't fix it, these bad events will just get worse.

How We Are Influenced by Sensationalism

Let's be honest, this will never change. Since 2001 the National Media has been wonderful about sensationalism. Every bad event, whether it's big or small just keeps going on and on while other bad things continue to pile up.

We talked for days about the "fiscal cliff" and were convinced as a country that we were doomed. But we really weren't. If we had just let the cliff fall, a lot of things would have been better. A reduction in the deficit through reducing spending. The only people freaking out, in reality, were businesses. Yet, thanks to the media's sensationalism we all freaked out.

Give People a Reason to Dance

I don't have a problem with covering the news, but when it's 24/7 coverage repeating the same stories and recounts over and over, I get a little tired of hearing about it. Let's start filling the lives of Americans, and citizens of the World, with hope and happiness. Let's talk about the good out there, let's stop droning on bad events by bad people. Let's help each other out, let's look out for evil as a team, and let's put our best foot forward as a country to try and make good happen.

Because, as Kid President would say, "we've got to give people a reason to dance."
